Grooming cats one cat at a time
Grooming a cat for the first time can feel a little like negotiating a business deal with someone who hasn’t decided whether they trust you yet!
Your cat knows you. They know your voice, your touch and their familiar surroundings. When they meet me, I need to earn that trust—and with cats, that takes patience, understanding and a thoughtful approach.
Understanding your cat
Many owners tell me, “There’s no way my cat would let me do that to them!”
If you’ve struggled with brushing, bathing or nail clipping at home, that’s understandable. Grooming can test even the closest relationship, particularly when your cat is uncomfortable, tangled or unfamiliar with the process.
As a Certified Feline Master Groomer, I’m trained to understand feline behaviour, recognise body language and adapt my handling and grooming techniques to each cat’s individual needs.
My aim is to make the experience as calm and comfortable as possible, while respecting your cat’s limits.
Knowing when to pause
I often say that cats have a “turkey timer”—when they’re done, they’re done!
Some cats have plenty of patience; others have a much shorter window. The skill is recognising those early signals, understanding what increases their stress and knowing when to slow down, offer a break or stop.
Extra pats and cuddles aren’t always what a cat needs in that moment. Sometimes quiet, gentle handling and a little space are the best ways to build confidence.
Their wellbeing comes first. If continuing would cause undue distress or put your cat or me at risk, I will stop and discuss the next steps with you.
